The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
{To the chief Musician. On Shushan. Testimony. Michtam of David; to teach: when he strove with the Syrians of Mesopotamia, and the Syrians of Zobah, and Joab returned, and smote the Edomites in the valley of salt, twelve thousand.} O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased: restore us again. 1 You have rejected us, O God, and burst forth upon us; you have been angry--now restore us!
Thou hast made the earth to tremble, thou hast rent it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh. 2 You have shaken the land and torn it open; mend its fractures, for it is quaking.
Thou hast shewn thy people hard things; thou hast made us to drink the wine of bewilderment. 3 You have shown your people desperate times; you have given us wine that makes us stagger.
Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth, (Selah,) 4 But for those who fear you, you have raised a banner to be unfurled against the bow. "Selah"
That thy beloved ones may be delivered. Save with thy right hand, and answer me. 5 Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love may be delivered.
God hath spoken in his holiness: I will exult, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth. 6 God has spoken from his sanctuary: "In triumph I will parcel out Shechem and measure off the Valley of Succoth.
Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine, and Ephraim is the strength of my head; Judah is my law-giver; 7 Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my scepter.
Moab is my wash-pot; upon Edom will I cast my sandal; Philistia, shout aloud because of me. 8 Moab is my washbasin, upon Edom I toss my sandal; over Philistia I shout in triumph."
Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me unto Edom? 9 Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?
[Wilt] not thou, O God, who didst cast us off? and didst not go forth, O God, with our armies? 10 Is it not you, O God, you who have rejected us and no longer go out with our armies?
Give us help from trouble; for vain is man's deliverance. 11 Give us aid against the enemy, for the help of man is worthless.
Through God we shall do valiantly; and he it is that will tread down our adversaries. 12 With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.
