Young's Literal Translation (YLT) New International Version (NIV)
A Prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, a habitation Thou -- Thou hast been, To us -- in generation and generation, 1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.
Before mountains were brought forth, And Thou dost form the earth and the world, Even from age unto age Thou [art] God. 2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Thou turnest man unto a bruised thing, And sayest, Turn back, ye sons of men. 3 You turn men back to dust, saying, "Return to dust, O sons of men."
For a thousand years in Thine eyes [are] as yesterday, For it passeth on, yea, a watch by night. 4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.
Thou hast inundated them, they are asleep, In the morning as grass he changeth. 5 You sweep men away in the sleep of death; they are like the new grass of the morning--
In the morning it flourisheth, and hath changed, At evening it is cut down, and hath withered. 6 though in the morning it springs up new, by evening it is dry and withered.
For we were consumed in Thine anger, And in Thy fury we have been troubled. 7 We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation.
Thou hast set our iniquities before Thee, Our hidden things at the light of Thy face, 8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
For all our days pined away in Thy wrath, We consumed our years as a meditation. 9 All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a moan.
Days of our years, in them [are] seventy years, And if, by reason of might, eighty years, Yet [is] their enlargement labour and vanity, For it hath been cut off hastily, and we fly away. 10 The length of our days is seventy years-- or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
Who knoweth the power of Thine anger? And according to Thy fear -- Thy wrath? 11 Who knows the power of your anger? For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you.
To number our days aright let [us] know, And we bring the heart to wisdom. 12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Turn back, O Jehovah, till when? And repent concerning Thy servants. 13 Relent, O LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants.
Satisfy us at morn [with] Thy kindness, And we sing and rejoice all our days. 14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
Cause us to rejoice according to the days Wherein Thou hast afflicted us, The years we have seen evil. 15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.
Let Thy work appear unto Thy servants, And Thine honour on their sons. 16 May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children.
And let the pleasantness of Jehovah our God be upon us, And the work of our hands establish on us, Yea, the work of our hands establish it! 17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us-- yes, establish the work of our hands.
