| The Darby Translation (DBY) | New International Version (NIV) |
| 1 But I commend to you Phoebe, our sister, who is minister of the assembly which is in Cenchrea; | 1 I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church in Cenchrea. |
| 2 that ye may receive her in [the] Lord worthily of saints, and that ye may assist her in whatever matter she has need of you; for *she* also has been a helper of many, and of myself. | 2 I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of the saints and to give her any help she may need from you, for she has been a great help to many people, including me. |
| 3 Salute Prisca and Aquila, my fellow-workmen in Christ Jesus, | 3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus. |
| 4 (who for my life staked their own neck; to whom not *I* only am thankful, but also all the assemblies of the nations,) | 4 They risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them. |
| 5 and the assembly at their house. Salute Epaenetus, my beloved, who is [the] first-fruits of Asia for Christ. | 5 Greet also the church that meets at their house. Greet my dear friend Epenetus, who was the first convert to Christ in the province of Asia. |
| 6 Salute Maria, who laboured much for you. | 6 Greet Mary, who worked very hard for you. |
| 7 Salute Andronicus and Junias, my kinsmen and fellow-captives, who are of note among the apostles; who were also in Christ before me. | 7 Greet Andronicus and Junias, my relatives who have been in prison with me. They are outstanding among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was. |
| 8 Salute Amplias, my beloved in the Lord. | 8 Greet Ampliatus, whom I love in the Lord. |
| 9 Salute Urbanus, our fellow-workman in Christ, and Stachys, my beloved. | 9 Greet Urbanus, our fellow worker in Christ, and my dear friend Stachys. |
| 10 Salute Apelles, approved in Christ. Salute those who belong to Aristobulus. | 10 Greet Apelles, tested and approved in Christ. |
| 11 Salute Herodion, my kinsman. Salute those who belong to Narcissus, who are in [the] Lord. | 11 Greet Herodion, my relative. Greet those in the household of Narcissus who are in the Lord. |
| 12 Salute Tryphaena and Tryphosa, who labour in [the] Lord. Salute Persis, the beloved, who has laboured much in [the] Lord. | 12 Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, those women who work hard in the Lord. Greet my dear friend Persis, another woman who has worked very hard in the Lord. |
| 13 Salute Rufus, chosen in [the] Lord; and his mother and mine. | 13 Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother, who has been a mother to me, too. |
| 14 Salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the brethren with them. | 14 Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas and the brothers with them. |
| 15 Salute Philologus, and Julia, Nereus, and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints with them. | 15 Greet Philologus, Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas and all the saints with them. |
| 16 Salute one another with a holy kiss. All the assemblies of Christ salute you. | 16 Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ send greetings. |
| 17 But I beseech you, brethren, to consider those who create divisions and occasions of falling, contrary to the doctrine which *ye* have learnt, and turn away from them. | 17 I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. |
| 18 For such serve not our Lord Christ, but their own belly, and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting. | 18 For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. |
| 19 For your obedience has reached to all. I rejoice therefore as it regards you; but I wish you to be wise [as] to that which is good, and simple [as] to evil. | 19 Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil. |
| 20 But the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you. | 20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. |
| 21 Timotheus, my fellow-workman, and Lucius, and Jason, and Sosipater, my kinsmen, salute you. | 21 Timothy, my fellow worker, sends his greetings to you, as do Lucius, Jason and Sosipater, my relatives. |
| 22 I Tertius, who have written this epistle, salute you in [the] Lord. | 22 I, Tertius, who wrote down this letter, greet you in the Lord. |
| 23 Gaius, my host and of the whole assembly, salutes you. Erastus, the steward of the city, salutes you, and the brother Quartus. | 23 Gaius, whose hospitality I and the whole church here enjoy, sends you his greetings. Erastus, who is the city's director of public works, and our brother Quartus send you their greetings. |
| 24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you all. Amen. | 24 Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, |
| 25 Now to him that is able to establish you, according to my glad tidings and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to [the] revelation of [the] mystery, as to which silence has been kept in [the] times of the ages, | 25 but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him-- |
| 26 but [which] has now been made manifest, and by prophetic scriptures, according to commandment of the eternal God, made known for obedience of faith to all the nations -- | 26 to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen. |
| 27 [the] only wise God, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever. Amen. | 27 |
