1 Al Capo de’ musici. Sopra l’ottava. Salmo di Davide. Salva, o Eterno, poiché l’uomo pio vien meno, e i fedeli vengono a mancare tra i figliuoli degli uomini.

2 Ciascuno mentisce parlando col prossimo; parlano con labbro lusinghiero e con cuor doppio.

3 L’Eterno recida tutte le labbra lusinghiere, la lingua che parla alteramente,

4 quelli che dicono: Con le nostre lingue prevarremo; le nostre labbra sono per noi; chi sarà signore su noi?

5 Per l’oppressione dei miseri, per il grido d’angoscia de’ bisognosi, ora mi leverò, dice l’Eterno; darò loro la salvezza alla quale anelano.

6 Le parole dell’Eterno son parole pure, sono argento affinato in un crogiuolo di terra, purificato sette volte.

1 Help, LORD, for no one is faithful anymore; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.

2 Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts.

3 May the LORD silence all flattering lips and every boastful tongue—

4 those who say, “By our tongues we will prevail; our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?”

5 “Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will protect them from those who malign them.”

6 And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.
