Psalm 137 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
1 By the rivers of Babylon1 we sat and wept2 when we remembered Zion.3 2 There on the poplars4 we hung our harps,5 3 for there our captors6 asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded7 songs of joy; they said, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"8 4 How can we sing the songs of the LORD 9 while in a foreign land? 5 If I forget you,10 O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget [its skill]. 6 May my tongue cling to the roof11 of my mouth if I do not remember12 you, if I do not consider Jerusalem13 my highest joy. 7 Remember, O LORD, what the Edomites14 did on the day Jerusalem fell.15 "Tear it down," they cried, "tear it down to its foundations!"16 8 O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction,17 happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us-- 9 he who seizes your infants and dashes them18 against the rocks.
