Psalm 56 (New International Version)

View In My Bible

For the director of music. To [the tune of] "A Dove on Distant Oaks." Of David. A "miktam." When the Philistines had seized him in Gath.

1 Be merciful to me,1 O God, for men hotly pursue me;2 all day long they press their attack.3 2 My slanderers pursue me all day long;4 many are attacking me in their pride.5 3 When I am afraid,6 I will trust in you.7 4 In God, whose word I praise,8 in God I trust; I will not be afraid.9 What can mortal man do to me?10 5 All day long they twist my words;11 they are always plotting to harm me. 6 They conspire,12 they lurk, they watch my steps,13 eager to take my life.14 7 On no account let them escape;15 in your anger, O God, bring down the nations.16 8 Record my lament; list my tears on your scrolla17-- are they not in your record?18 9 Then my enemies will turn back19 when I call for help.20 By this I will know that God is for me.21 10 In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise-- 11 in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? 12 I am under vows22 to you, O God; I will present my thank offerings to you. 13 For you have delivered meb from death23 and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.c24
