Deuteronomio 4:6-16

6 Guardadlos, pues, y ponedlos por obra; porque ésta es vuestra sabiduría y vuestra inteligencia en ojos de los pueblos, los cuales oirán todos estos estatutos, y dirán: Ciertamente esta nación grande es un pueblo sabio y entendido.

7 Porque ¿qué nación grande hay que tenga los dioses cercanos a sí, como lo está el SEÑOR nuestro Dios en todo cuanto le pedimos?

8 Y ¿qué nación grande hay que tenga estatutos y derechos justos, como es toda esta ley que yo pongo hoy delante de vosotros?

9 Por tanto, guárdate, y guarda tu alma con diligencia, que no te olvides de las cosas que tus ojos han visto, ni se aparten de tu corazón todos los días de tu vida; y las enseñarás a tus hijos, y a los hijos de tus hijos.

10 El día que estuviste delante del SEÑOR tu Dios en Horeb, cuando el SEÑOR me dijo: Júntame el pueblo, para que yo les haga oír mis palabras, las cuales aprenderán, para temerme todos los días que vivieren sobre la tierra; y las enseñarán a sus hijos.

11 Y os llegasteis, y os pusisteis al pie del monte; y el monte ardía en fuego hasta en medio de los cielos con tinieblas, nube, y oscuridad.

12 Y habló el SEÑOR con vosotros de en medio del fuego; oísteis la voz de sus palabras, mas a excepción de oír la voz, ninguna figura visteis.

13 Y él os anunció su pacto, el cual os mandó poner por obra, las diez palabras; y las escribió en dos tablas de piedra.

14 A mí también me mandó el SEÑOR en aquel tiempo, que os enseñase los estatutos y derechos, para que los pusieseis por obra en la tierra a la cual pasáis para poseerla.

15 Guardad, pues, mucho vuestras almas; porque ninguna figura visteis el día que el SEÑOR habló con vosotros de en medio del fuego;

16 para que no os corrompáis, y hagáis para vosotros escultura, imagen de alguna semejanza, figura de macho o de hembra;

INTRODUCTION TO DEUTERONOMY 4

This chapter contains an exhortation to Israel to keep the commands, statutes, and judgments of God, urged from the superior excellency of them to those of all other nations, De 4:1-8, from the manner in which they were delivered, out of the midst of fire, by a voice of words, but no similitude seen, De 4:9-15, and particularly the Israelites are cautioned against idolatry, from the consideration of the goodness of God to them, in bringing them out of Egypt, De 4:16-20, and the rather Moses is urgent upon them to be diligent in their obedience to the laws of God, because he should quickly be removed from them, De 4:21-24, and should they be disobedient to them, it would provoke the Lord to destroy them, or to carry them captive into other lands, De 4:25-28 though even then, if they repented and sought the Lord, and became obedient, he would be merciful to them, and not forsake them, De 4:29-31 and they are put in mind again of the amazing things God had done for them, in speaking to them out of fire, and they alive; in bringing them out of another nation, and driving out other nations to make room for them; all which he improves, as so many arguments to move them to obedience to the divine commands, De 4:32-40 and then notice is taken of the three cities of refuge, separated on this side Jordan, De 4:41-43, and the chapter is concluded with observing, that this is the law, and these the testimonies, Moses declared and repeated to the children of Israel in the country of Sihon and Og, who were delivered into their hands, and their lands possessed by them, which laid them under fresh obligations to yield obedience to God, De 4:44-49.
