Jona 2:2-10

2 (H2:3) Ich rief aus meiner Bedrängnis zu Jehova, und er antwortete mir; ich schrie aus dem Schoße des Scheols, du hörtest meine Stimme.

3 (H2:4) Denn du hattest mich in die Tiefe, in das Herz der Meere geworfen, und der Strom umschloß mich; alle deine Wogen und deine Wellen fuhren über mich hin.

4 (H2:5) Und ich sprach: Verstoßen bin ich aus deinen Augen; dennoch werde ich wieder hinschauen nach deinem heiligen Tempel.

5 (H2:6) Die Wasser umfingen mich bis an die Seele, die Tiefe umschloß mich, das Meergras schlang sich um mein Haupt.

6 (H2:7) Ich fuhr hinab zu den Gründen der Berge; der Erde Riegel waren hinter mir auf ewig. Da führtest du mein Leben aus der Grube herauf, Jehova, mein Gott.

7 (H2:8) Als meine Seele in mir verschmachtete, gedachte ich Jehovas, und zu dir kam mein Gebet in deinen heiligen Tempel.

8 (H2:9) Die auf nichtige Götzen achten, verlassen ihre Gnade.

9 (H2:10) Ich aber werde dir opfern mit der Stimme des Lobes; was ich gelobt habe, werde ich bezahlen. Bei Jehova ist die Rettung.

10 (H2:11) Und Jehova befahl dem Fische, und er spie Jona an das Land aus.

Jona 2:2-10 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO JONAH 2

This chapter contains the prayer of Jonah, when in the fish's belly; the time when he prayed, the person he prayed unto, and the place where, are suggested in Jon 2:1; and the latter described as a place of great straitness and distress, and even as hell itself, Jon 2:2; The condition he was in, when cast into the sea, and when in the belly of the fish, which is observed, the more to heighten the greatness of the deliverance, Jon 2:3-6. The different frame of mind he was in, sometimes almost in despair, and ready to faint; and presently exercising faith and hope, remembering the goodness of the Lord, and resolving to look again to him, Jon 2:4,7. The gracious regards of God to him, in receiving, hearing, and answering his prayer, and bringing up his life from corruption, Jon 2:2,6,7. His resolution, let others do what they would, to praise the Lord, and give him the glory of his salvation, Jon 2:8,9; and the chapter is concluded with the order for his deliverance, and the manner of it, Jon 2:10.
