Oseas 10:1-10

1 Juicio de Dios contra Israel
Qué próspero es Israel,
una vid frondosa llena de uvas.
Pero mientras más se enriquece la gente,
más altares paganos construye.
Cuanto más abundantes sus cosechas,
tanto más hermosas sus columnas sagradas.

2 El corazón de los israelitas es inconstante;
ellos son culpables y deben ser castigados.
El Señor
derribará sus altares
y hará pedazos sus columnas sagradas.

3 Entonces dirán: «No tenemos rey
porque no temimos al Señor
.
Pero aun si tuviéramos un rey,
¿qué podría hacer por nosotros?».

4 La gente habla palabras vacías
y hace pactos que no tiene intención de cumplir.
Así que la injusticia brota en medio de ellos
como hierbas venenosas en el campo de un agricultor.

5 La gente de Samaria tiembla de miedo
por lo que pudiera ocurrirle a su ídolo, el becerro en Bet-avén.
El pueblo está de luto y los sacerdotes se lamentan
porque la gloria del ídolo será quitada.

6 Este ídolo será llevado a Asiria,
un regalo para el gran rey.
Se burlarán de Efraín e Israel será avergonzado
porque confiaron en ese ídolo.

7 Samaria y su rey serán arrancados;
flotarán a la deriva como un madero sobre las olas del mar.

8 Y los santuarios paganos de Avén,
donde Israel pecaba, se derrumbarán.
Alrededor de sus altares crecerán espinos y cardos.
Suplicarán a los montes: «¡Entiérrennos!»
y rogarán a las colinas: «¡Caigan sobre nosotros!».

9 Dice el Señor
: «¡Oh Israel, desde los tiempos de Guibeá,
hay tan solo pecado y más pecado!
No has mejorado en absoluto.
¿Acaso no fue justo que los hombres perversos de Guibeá fueran atacados?

10 Ahora, cuando concuerde con mis planes,
también a ustedes los atacaré.
Llamaré a los ejércitos de las naciones
para castigarlos por sus múltiples pecados.

Oseas 10:1-10 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO HOSEA 10

This chapter is of the same argument with the former, and others before that; setting forth the sins of the ten tribes, and threatening them with the judgments of God for them; and exhorting them to repentance, and works of righteousness. They are charged with unfruitfulness and ingratitude; increasing in idolatry, as they increased in temporal good things, Ho 10:1; with a divided heart, and with irreverence of God, and their king; and with false swearing, covenant breaking, and injustice, Ho 10:2-4; and are threatened with a removal of their king, and with the destruction of their idols, and places of idolatry, which should cause fear in the common people, and mourning among the priests, Ho 10:1,5-8. It is observed, that their sin had been of long continuance, though the Lord had been kind and good unto them, in chastising them in love, giving them good laws, sending his prophets to exhort them to repentance and reformation, but all in vain, Ho 10:9-13; wherefore they are threatened with the spoiling of their fortresses, the destruction of the people, and the cutting off of their king, Ho 10:14,15.
