Before I was afflicted1 I went astray,2 but now I obey your word.368
You are good,4 and what you do is good; teach me your decrees.569
Though the arrogant have smeared me with lies,6 I keep your precepts with all my heart.
Their hearts are callous7 and unfeeling, but I delight in your law.
It was good for me to be afflicted8 so that I might learn your decrees.
The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.9
Your hands made me10 and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
May those who fear you rejoice11 when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.1275
I know, O LORD, that your laws are righteous,13 and in faithfulness14 you have afflicted me.
May your unfailing love15 be my comfort, according to your promise16 to your servant.
Let your compassion17 come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.18
