Psalm 44:15-25 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
15 My disgrace1 is before me all day long, and my face is covered with shame2 16 at the taunts3 of those who reproach and revile4 me, because of the enemy, who is bent on revenge.5 17 All this happened to us, though we had not forgotten6 you or been false to your covenant. 18 Our hearts had not turned7 back; our feet had not strayed from your path. 19 But you crushed8 us and made us a haunt for jackals9 and covered us over with deep darkness.10 20 If we had forgotten11 the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god,12 21 would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart?13 22 Yet for your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep14 to be slaughtered.15 23 Awake,16 O Lord! Why do you sleep?17 Rouse yourself !18 Do not reject us forever.19 24 Why do you hide your face20 and forget21 our misery and oppression?22 25 We are brought down to the dust;23 our bodies cling to the ground.
