View In My Bible

For the director of music. To the tune of "The Doe of the Morning." A psalm of David."

1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?1 Why are you so far2 from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?3 2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,4 by night,5 but I find no rest.a 3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One;6 you are the praiseb7 of Israel. 4 In you our ancestors put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them.8 5 They cried to you9 and were saved; in you they trusted10 and were not disappointed.11 6 But I am a worm,12 not a human being; I am scorned by everyone,13 despised14 by the people. 7 All who see me mock me;15 they hurl insults,16 shaking their heads.17 8 "He trusts in the LORD," they say, "let the LORD rescue him.18 Let him deliver him,19 since he delights20 in him." 9 Yet you brought me out of the womb;21 you made me feel secure22 on my mother's breast. 10 From birth23 I was cast on you; from my mother's womb you have been my God. 11 Do not be far from me,24 for trouble is near25 and there is no one to help.26 12 Many bulls27 surround me;28 strong bulls of Bashan29 encircle me. 13 Roaring lions30 that tear their prey31 open their mouths wide32 against me. 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint.33 My heart has turned to wax;34 it has melted35 within me. 15 My mouthc is dried up like a potsherd,36 and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;37 you lay med in the dust38 of death. 16 Dogs39 surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they piercee40 my hands and my feet. 17 All my bones are on display; people stare41 and gloat over me.42 18 They divide my clothes among them and cast lots43 for my garment.44 19 But you, LORD, do not be far from me.45 You are my strength;46 come quickly47 to help me.48 20 Deliver me from the sword,49 my precious life50 from the power of the dogs.51 21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions;52 save me from the horns of the wild oxen.53 22 I will declare your name to my people; in the assembly54 I will praise you.55 23 You who fear the LORD, praise him!56 All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!57 Revere him,58 all you descendants of Israel! 24 For he has not despised59 or scorned the suffering of the afflicted one;60 he has not hidden his face61 from him but has listened to his cry for help.62 25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly;63 before those who fear youf I will fulfill my vows.64 26 The poor will eat65 and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD will praise him--66 may your hearts live forever! 27 All the ends of the earth67 will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,68 28 for dominion belongs to the LORD 69 and he rules over the nations. 29 All the rich70 of the earth will feast and worship;71 all who go down to the dust72 will kneel before him-- those who cannot keep themselves alive.73 30 Posterity74 will serve him; future generations75 will be told about the Lord. 31 They will proclaim his righteousness,76 declaring to a people yet unborn:77 He has done it!78
