View In My Bible
3 Seek1 the LORD, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness,2 seek humility;3 perhaps you will be sheltered4 on the day of the LORD's anger.

Against Philistia

4 Gaza5 will be abandoned and Ashkelon6 left in ruins. At midday Ashdod will be emptied and Ekron uprooted. 5 Woe to you who live by the sea, O Kerethite7 people; the word of the LORD is against you,8 O Canaan, land of the Philistines. "I will destroy you, and none will be left."9 6 The land by the sea, where the Kerethitesa dwell, will be a place for shepherds and sheep pens.10 7 It will belong to the remnant11 of the house of Judah; there they will find pasture. In the evening they will lie down in the houses of Ashkelon. The LORD their God will care for them; he will restore their fortunes.b12

Against Moab and Ammon

8 "I have heard the insults13 of Moab14 and the taunts of the Ammonites,15 who insulted16 my people and made threats against their land.17 9 Therefore, as surely as I live," declares the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, "surely Moab18 will become like Sodom,19 the Ammonites20 like Gomorrah-- a place of weeds and salt pits, a wasteland forever. The remnant of my people will plunder21 them; the survivors22 of my nation will inherit their land.23" 10 This is what they will get in return for their pride,24 for insulting25 and mocking the people of the LORD Almighty.26 11 The LORD will be awesome27 to them when he destroys all the gods28 of the land.29 The nations on every shore will worship him,30 every one in its own land.

Against Cush

12 "You too, O Cushites,c31 will be slain by my sword.32"

Against Assyria

13 He will stretch out his hand against the north and destroy Assyria,33 leaving Nineveh34 utterly desolate and dry as the desert.35
