With so many grueling examples of bitter grudges, fits of rage, violence, and shouting matches, how could we ever think of anger in a positive light? The truth is God has a good purpose for all things in His creation, even anger.

We have already discussed the picture of the resurrection in Joseph’s life and considered its significance, as it pointed to the One Who would personally conquer sin and death. From there, the discussion naturally concludes not only with the personal conquest of death, but with the blessing of life given to all to who seek after it.

God will give his people new bodies and bring them into a new heavens and new earth untarnished by sin and death (1 Corinthians 15; Revelation 21:1-8). But first someone had to make the way for God’s people through death to life. Someone had to vanquish death and overcome its power so the hope of the resurrection could be true for God’s people.

If Jesus went through trials and suffering in this life, we can expect the same (1 Peter 4:12-13). The pattern of life Jesus lived is known as the life of the Suffering Servant. This term is commonly associated with the messianic prophecy found in Isaiah 53 which describes the Servant of God who suffers and bears the iniquity of God’s people, getting crushed on their behalf and then rising to glory.
