Listen to the Part of Your Soul That Feels Anger

What happens within you when you read this verse? Maybe you hear an inaudible grumble or a resentful thought, like I always get a bad rap!

“Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, for anger dwells in the heart of fools” (Ecclesiastes 7:9, AMP).

If you sense anger emanating on the inside as you read the verse, that reaction likely comes from your angry part.

Think of your angry part as your personal security detail that has been tirelessly championing your welfare. Even the most stoic Secret Service agent is bound to appreciate a word of gratitude for doing his job. So, please appreciate your angry part for the role it has played in your life.

If you’re curious, ask your part to explain why it’s angry. Who is it angry at?

Let your part know if its answer makes sense to you.

God gave us Jesus because He so loved the world (John 3:16). “The world” in this verse includes your angry part. Ask your part if it is willing to receive His love. If you sense a yes, invite Jesus to join you and your part.

Ask the Lord to love on your angry part. Is there anything He wants to say to you or to your part? For instance, what did God create your part to do?

How is your angry part now? Are you detecting any transformation? Let it bask in Jesus’ presence.

When the moment seems appropriate, ask your part if it’s open to hearing what Jesus says about the verses on anger you read previously. What is the purpose of these verses?

You can also ask your part: what needs to happen before you can release your rage?

The answer you receive may touch on some unresolved hurt. If so, consider pursuing emotional healing, such as by working with a skilled therapist. I heartily endorse certified IFS therapists to help you with your healing journey.

Finally, may the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you and your angry part (2 Corinthians 13:14).
