Praying for Peace through Psalm 122

Praying for Peace through Psalm 122

This ancient song provides relevant clues to our present search for peace. The opportunity to be offended arises several times a day. There is no peace in offense, or defense. No matter what side of the divide we find ourselves on, the end result is the same: diminishing peace.

This is the day You have made, purposefully. I will rejoice and be glad in it, knowing the peace in my heart cannot be moved. Help me to focus on You, and embrace Your peace in every conversation and situation today.

Thank you for the Psalms of Ascent, Father, and David’s faithfulness to pen them.

Lord, I am glad you have called me to follow You, and I dream of the day when I get to come home to You in heaven. The scene I hold in my heart, alone, brings peace to my thoughts.

You shield, protect, and provide for me as a city guarded by immovable walls. Though trouble comes, nothing can take me out. Not on Your watch. You are in sovereign control, Lord.

Every day I live for Your glory, to give thanks to Your name, Lord. I pray for peace in my life, among Your people, Your church, and the world You created. May there be peace and prosperity, Lord.

I pray for it to reign over my family, friends, co-workers, church family, community, school system, city, state, country, and beyond. Let everything the peace You have given me touches, reproduce infinitely.

I will seek You, God, everyday.

I will pray Your peace over the lives which border mine, grip it when I can barely breath through the trauma of this life, and rejoice from the top of my lungs when Your peace prevails miraculously – again and again.

I love You, Lord.

I pray in the powerful name of Jesus,

Amen.

Let us pray for peace, not just on our own accord and for the benefit of our personal lives. We were created to love God, and love people. The ripple effect of praying peace over the lives which border our own is miraculous. It’s worth swallowing our pride, laying down our defenses, and choosing not to be offended. All of those tasks are hard, and take disciplined effort. But when we flip our perspective to see others as God does, peace prevails.
