Why Is Genesis 1:1 So Significant in Our Understanding of God?

Colossians 1:16 - “For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities — all things were created through Him and for Him.”
Hebrews 11:3 - “By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.”
Jesus Himself was called the image of God. He was God incarnate. Jesus is the most beautiful mystery, that the Creator Himself came down to live among His creation and reconcile the sinful world to Himself. Colossians 1:15 says, “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.”
We are reborn when we accept Jesus as Savior; we are recreated by His Holy Spirit within us. Where Adam was the firstborn of creation and he sinned, Jesus is the firstborn of creation who never sinned and lived the perfect life!
1 Corinthians 15:45 - “The Scriptures tell us, ‘The first man, Adam, became a living person.’ But the last Adam — that is, Christ — is a life-giving Spirit.”
When was the last time that you looked up at the night sky or saw the beauty of a sunset? There is a great mystery in the skies. There is a beautiful design that is undeniable. From the highest of heavens and the solar system, to the deepest parts of the oceans to the furthest of lands, our God made all of it. From the smallest insect to the largest mammal, the Lord created them and designed every single one.
This reminds us that when we look around at creation, we can see that there is a Creator God. There is evidence through the power, precision, quality, and the beautiful working of nature.
Romans 1:20 - “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”
As we ponder the greatness of our Creator, reflect the value of being His beloved creations and through Jesus, His children, may we glorify Him. As we look around the world that surrounds us, may we be in awe that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and everything is worshiping Him. We can join in and celebrate His creativity!
