Hello, My Name is ... God | Psalm 18:35

Psalm 18:35 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great.

Have you ever felt like your life has been put on hold? King David did. For ten years, after being anointed king by the prophet Samuel, David lived life on the run from Saul. But during that decade, God gave him a “shield of victory” and sustained him through some pretty close calls. God stooped down in order to lift David up.

God does the same thing for us today. Sin puts us on the run from God. Left to ourselves, we have no inclination to love and serve him. Sin separates us from the holy God. And our best effort on our best day with our best attitude cannot bridge the gap. So God stooped down.

Jesus—God in the flesh—left heaven and came down to earth. “The Word became flesh and lived among us.” And if leaving heaven and taking on flesh wasn’t humbling enough, Jesus went to the cross to die for our sins. He died in our place. Now, our trust in his payment for our sins places us into a relationship with the holy God. The question is—have you trusted in Jesus as the one who paid the penalty for your sins? Remember, Jesus stooped down to make you great.

Father, I pray for the one reading this who has never trusted in Jesus. I pray that you will help them trust in the finished work of Christ on the cross in order to enter into a personal relationship with you. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for stooping down to make us great. We pray in your name. Amen.
