1 Samuel 18:9

And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
] Instead of looking pleasantly, and with a smile, upon him, as a courtier and favourite, he was justly entitled to by his gallant behaviour, he looked at him with a sour, ill natured look; he looked at him with an evil, spiteful, malicious, and envious eye; or he diligently watched and observed all his motions and actions, whether they tended to disloyalty and treason, to dethrone him, and take the kingdom to himself, which he was suspicious of; he laid wait for him, as the Targum, and laid snares too, as the following history shows.

7 Las mujeres cantaban mientras tocaban, y decían: Saúl ha matado a sus miles, y David a sus diez miles.
8 Entonces Saúl se enfureció, pues este dicho le desagradó, y dijo: Han atribuido a David diez miles, pero a mí me han atribuido miles. ¿Y qué más le falta sino el reino?
9 De aquel día en adelante Saúl miró a David con recelo.
10 Y aconteció al día siguiente que un espíritu malo de parte de Dios se apoderó de Saúl, y éste deliraba en medio de la casa, mientras David tocaba el arpa con su mano como de costumbre. Saúl tenía la lanza en la mano,
11 y arrojó Saúl la lanza, pues se dijo: Clavaré a David en la pared. Pero David lo evadió dos veces.
