9 Entonces Abimelec llamó a Isaac, y le dijo: He aquí ciertamente ella es tu mujer. ¿Cómo, pues, dijiste: "Es mi hermana"? E Isaac le respondió: Porque me dije: "No sea que yo muera por causa de ella."

Genesis 26:9

And Abimelech called Isaac
Sent a messenger to desire him to come to him: and said, behold, of a surety she [is] thy wife:
and then perhaps told him of what he had observed that passed between them; which was a clear proof that they must be man and wife, or he would never have took such liberties with her: and how saidst thou, she [is] my sister?
what reason hadst thou for it? what could induce thee to say so? and Isaac said unto him;
not alleging, as Abraham did, any relation that was between them before marriage: because I said;
that is, within himself, for, he did not speak it out to others: lest I die for her;
for her sake, that another might have and enjoy her; it was fear of losing his life that led him to take such a step, and give out that she was his sister.

7 Y cuando los hombres de aquel lugar le preguntaron acerca de su mujer, él dijo: Es mi hermana; porque tenía temor de decir: Es mi mujer. Porque pensaba: no sea que los hombres del lugar me maten por causa de Rebeca, pues es de hermosa apariencia.

8 Y sucedió que después de haber estado allí largo tiempo, Abimelec, rey de los filisteos, miró por una ventana, y he aquí, vio a Isaac acariciando a Rebeca su mujer.

9 Entonces Abimelec llamó a Isaac, y le dijo: He aquí ciertamente ella es tu mujer. ¿Cómo, pues, dijiste: "Es mi hermana"? E Isaac le respondió: Porque me dije: "No sea que yo muera por causa de ella."

10 Y Abimelec dijo: ¿Qué es esto que nos has hecho? Porque alguno del pueblo fácilmente pudiera haberse acostado con tu mujer, y hubieras traído culpa sobre nosotros.

11 Y Abimelec ordenó a todo el pueblo, diciendo: El que toque a este hombre o a su mujer, de cierto morirá.
