“’Tis a gift to be simple. ’Tis a gift to be free.” —Shaker song

DESIRE

to uncomplicate and untangle my life so I can focus on what really matters

DEFINITION

Simplicity cultivates the great art of letting go. Simplicity aims at loosening inordinate attachment to owning and having. Simplicity brings freedom and with it generosity.

SCRIPTURE

“Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ ” (Matthew 5:37)

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven. . . . For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)

“ ‘One thing you lack,’ [Jesus] said. ‘Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.’ ” (Mark 10:21)

“Actually, I don’t have a sense of needing anything personally. I’ve learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances. I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little.” (Philippians 4:11-12 The Message)
