Deuteronomy 28:33

33 A nation unknown to you will eat the fruit of your land and labor. Yes, you will be continually oppressed and crushed,

Deuteronomy 28:33 Meaning and Commentary

Deuteronomy 28:33

The fruit of thy land, and all thy labour, shall a nation
which thou knowest not eat up
The same was prophesied of by Jeremiah, concerning the Babylonish captivity, and was fulfilled in it, ( Jeremiah 5:17 ) ; and has been also verified in the frequent pillage and spoil of this people, in their present state; for though they have no land to till, from whence to gather fruit, yet they are employed in manufactures and merchandise, the fruit and benefit of which they have been frequently stripped of:

and thou shall be only oppressed and crushed always;
this seems best to agree with their present case; for in their former captivities they were not always oppressed and crushed, but had respite and deliverance; (See Gill on Deuteronomy 28:29).

Deuteronomy 28:33 In-Context

31 Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you won't eat any of its meat. Your donkey will be taken away from you by force as you watch, and you won't get it back. Your sheep will be given to your enemies, and there will be no one to help you.
32 Your sons and daughters will be handed over to another people; you will watch for them longingly all day but not see them; and there will be nothing you can do about it.
33 A nation unknown to you will eat the fruit of your land and labor. Yes, you will be continually oppressed and crushed,
34 till you go crazy from what your eyes have to see.
35 ADONAI will strike you down in the knees and legs with painful and incurable boils; they will spread from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head.
