Issachar (7:1–5)
1–5 These verses list the descendants of Issachar.
Benjamin (7:6–12)
6–12 These verses list the descendants of Benjamin.
Naphtali (7:13)
13 This verse lists the sons of Naphtali. Naphtali was a son of Bilhah, Israel’s concubine (Genesis 30:3–8); thus Naphtali’s sons were also Bilhah’s descendants.
Manasseh (7:14–19)
14–19 These verses list the descendants of Joseph’s son Manasseh—that is, the half-tribe of Manasseh living on the west side of the Jordan River (see Joshua 17:1–13).
Ephraim (7:20–29)
20–29 These verses list the descendants of Joseph’s son Ephraim (see Joshua 16:5–10). The list ends with Joshua, the most famous Ephraimite, who led the Israelites in the conquest of Canaan (the promised land).
Asher (7:30–40)
30–40 These verses list the descendants of Asher. Notice that the writer omits the descendants of two of Israel’s twelve sons: Dan and Zebulun. Furthermore, in the lists the writer does include there are many individual omissions.
