35–36 At the end of the ordination proceedings, Moses gave Aaron and his sons a solemn warning: “. . . do what the LORD requires, so you will not die” (verse 35). To fail to do what the Lord requires is to sin, and the wages of sin is death (Romans6:23). Those who hold positions of responsibility will not escape the punishment for sin; indeed, their punishment will be greater because they have greater knowledge (Luke 12:47–48; James 3:1).
As we shall soon see, Moses solemn warning went unheeded, and the dreadful consequences of disobedience came to pass (see Leviticus 10:1–2).
