The Pilate Inscription

The Pilate Inscription found at Caesarea Maritima. The inscription reads “This building—Tiberium, by Pontius Pilatus, Prefect of Judea—has been built.” This inscription was discovered in 1961 by a team of archaeologists led by Dr. Antonio Frova. The limestone block that contained the inscription was found as part of the excavation of the Roman theater at Caesarea Maritima. Tiberius Caesar appointed Pontius Pilate prefect of the Roman Province of Judea in AD 26. He served in that role for ten years.
