Counsel was to kill (boulh egeneto ina--apokteinwsin). The soldiers did not relish the idea of the escape of the prisoners. Hence there came this "counsel" (boulh). Regular Greek idiom for purpose (ina and aorist active subjunctive of apokteinw, to kill). Soldiers were responsible for the lives of prisoners ( Acts 12:19 ). Swim out (ekkolumbhsa). First aorist active participle of ekkolumbaw, old verb to swim out and so away. Escape (diapugh). Second aorist (effective) active subjunctive of diapeugw, to make a clean (dia) escape.
