22 Mosè adunque scrisse questo Cantico in quel giorno, e l’insegnò a’ figliuoli d’Israele.

Deuteronomy 31:22

Moses therefore wrote this song the same day
The same day it was dictated to him by divine inspiration; he wrote it, as Josephus says ^F4,

``in hexameter verse, which he left in the holy Bible or book (the Pentateuch), containing (as he adds) a prophecy of things future, according to which all things have been done, and are done; and in nothing of it has he erred from the truth;''

which is a very just account of it, and worthy of observation:

and taught it the children of Israel;
instructed them in the meaning of it, directed them to repeat it frequently, to lay it up in their memories, and often meditate upon it; as being a divine composition, and of great importance, as the consideration of it will make appear.

20 Perciocchè io l’introdurrò nella terra, la quale io giurai a’ suoi padri, terra stillante latte e miele; ed egli mangerà, e sarà saziato, e ingrassato; ed egli si rivolgerà ad altri dii, e servirà loro, e mi dispetterà, e romperà il mio patto.

21 Onde, quando gran mali ed angosce gli saranno avvenute, questo Cantico testimonierà contro a lui in faccia; perciocchè non sarà dimenticato per non esser più nella bocca della sua progenie; conciossiachè io conosca la sua natura, ciò ch’egli fa oggi, innanzi ch’io l’abbia introdotto nel paese, ch’io ho giurato.

23 Poi il Signore diede comandamenti a Giosuè, figliuolo di Nun, e gli disse: Sii valente, e fortificati; perciocchè tu sei quel che introdurrai i figliuoli d’Israele nel paese che io ho loro giurato; e io sarò teco.

24 E, dopo che Mosè ebbe finito di scrivere compiutamente le parole di questa Legge in un libro,
