Esdra 5:16

16 Allora questo Sesbassar venne, e pose i fondamenti della Casa di Dio, che è in Gerusalemme; e da quel tempo infino ad ora ella si edifica, e non è ancora compiuta.

Ezra 5:16

Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the
house of God which is in Jerusalem
Which makes it clear, that by Sheshbazzar is meant Zerubbabel; for he it was that laid the foundation of the temple, or at least by whose order it was laid, see ( Zechariah 4:9 )

and since that time even until now;
from the first of Cyrus to the second of Darius, a space of about eighteen years, and just seventy from the destruction of the temple:

hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished;
the work going on slowly, not without interruption and intermission, through the enmity of the Samaritans unto them, who had made false representations of them; but these men, Tatnai and those with him, as the Jews gave them a very particular account of things, as above, so they fairly and fully related them in this their letter to the king.

14 Ed anche il re Ciro trasse fuor del tempio di Babilonia i vasellamenti d’oro e d’argento della Casa di Dio, i quali Nebucadnesar avea tratti fuor del Tempio, ch’era in Gerusalemme, e portati nel tempio di Babilonia; e quelli furon dati ad uno, nominato Sesbassar, il quale Ciro avea costituito governatore.

15 E Ciro gli disse: Prendi questi vasellamenti, e va’, e li riporta al Tempio, che è in Gerusalemme; e sia la Casa di Dio riedificata nel suo luogo.

16 Allora questo Sesbassar venne, e pose i fondamenti della Casa di Dio, che è in Gerusalemme; e da quel tempo infino ad ora ella si edifica, e non è ancora compiuta.

17 Ora dunque, se piace al re, ricerchisi costì nella casa de’ tesori del re, che è in Babilonia, se egli è vero che da Ciro fosse fatto comandamento che questa Casa di Dio fosse riedificata in Gerusalemme; e mandici il re la sua volontà intorno a ciò.
