Judges 13:22

And Manoah said unto his wife
Being risen from the ground, where they fell on their faces:

we shall surely die, because we have seen God;
by which it appears that he not only believed him to be an angel, and not a man, but a divine Person; for though angels are sometimes called "Elohim", the word here used, yet good men were not wont to fear death, or conclude they should die on sight of an angel; but their notion was, that an appearance of God to them was death, and were surprised when it did not follow, ( Genesis 32:30 ) ( Judges 6:22 Judges 6:23 ) ( Exodus 33:20 ) .

20 che fu che, come la fiamma saliva d’in su l’altare al cielo, l’Angelo del Signore salì con la fiamma dell’altare. E Manoa e la sua moglie, veduto ciò, caddero in terra in su le lor facce.

21 E l’Angelo del Signore non apparve più a Manoa, nè alla sua moglie. Allora Manoa conobbe ch’egli era l’Angelo del Signore.

22 E Manoa disse alla sua moglie: Per certo noi morremo; perciocchè abbiamo veduto Iddio.

23 Ma la sua moglie gli disse: Se fosse piaciuto al Signore di farci morire, egli non avrebbe accettato l’olocausto, nè l’offerta dalla nostra mano, e non ci avrebbe fatte veder tutte queste cose; e in un tal tempo egli non ci avrebbe fatte intender cotali cose.

24 Poi quella donna partorì un figliuolo, ed essa gli pose nome Sansone. E il fanciullo crebbe, e il Signore lo benedisse.
