4 Or in quel tempo Debora, donna profetessa, moglie di Lappidot, giudicava Israele.

5 Ed essa dimorava sotto la Palma di Debora, fra Rama e Betel, nel monte di Efraim; e i figliuoli d’Israele salivano a lei a giudicio.

6 Or essa mandò a chiamare, da Chedes di Neftali, Barac, figliuolo di Abinoam; e gli disse: Non t’ha il Signore Iddio d’Israele comandato: Va’, fa’ massa di gente nel monte di Tabor, e prendi teco diecimila uomini de’ figliuoli di Neftali, e de’ figliuoli di Zabulon?

7 E io accoglierò contro a te, al torrente di Chison, Sisera, Capo dell’esercito di Iabin insieme co’ suoi carri, e con la massa della sua gente; e io te lo darò nelle mani.

8 E Barac le disse: Se tu vai meco, io andrò; ma, se tu non vai meco, io non andrò.

9 Ed ella disse: Del tutto io andrò teco; ma pur tu non avrai onore nell’impresa che tu fai, quando il Signore avrà venduto Sisera nelle mani di una donna. E Debora si mosse e andò con Barac in Chedes.

INTRODUCTION TO JUDGES 4

This chapter shows how that Israel sinning was delivered into the hands of Jabin king of Canaan, by whom they were oppressed twenty years, Jud 4:1-3; and that Deborah and Barak consulted together about their deliverance, Jud 4:4-9; and that Barak, encouraged by Deborah, gathered some forces and fought Sisera the captain of Jabin's army, whom he met, and obtained a victory over, Jud 4:10-15; who fleeing on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber, was received into it, and slain by her while asleep in it, Jud 4:16-22; which issued in a complete deliverance of the children of Israel, Jud 4:23,24.
