Luke 23:37

And saying, if thou be the King of the Jews
Or their Messiah, who was spoken of as a divine person; for otherwise he might have been their king, and not have been able to have done what is proposed:

save thyself:
or deliver thyself from the cross.

35 E il popolo stava quivi, riguardando; ed anche i rettori, insiem col popolo, lo beffavano, dicendo: Egli ha salvati gli altri, salvi sè stesso, se pur costui è il Cristo, l’Eletto di Dio.
36 Or i soldati ancora lo schernivano, accostandosi, e presentandogli dell’aceto; e dicendo
37 Se tu sei il Re de’ Giudei, salva te stesso.
38 Or vi era anche questo titolo, di sopra al suo capo, scritto in lettere greche, romane, ed ebraiche: COSTUI È IL RE DE’ GIUDEI
39 Or l’uno de’ malfattori appiccati lo ingiuriava, dicendo: Se tu sei il Cristo, salva te stesso, e noi.
