22 Ma egli, attristato di quella parola, se ne andò dolente; perciocchè avea di gran beni.

Mark 10:22

And, he was sad at that saying
That he lacked one thing, and especially that he should be bid to sell all that he had, and give it away; and what might add to his sadness is, that he must take up the cross of reproach, affliction, persecution, and death; his countenance fell upon this,

and went away grieved:
finding that he must part with two things his heart was set upon, his idol of self-righteousness, and his mammon of unrighteousness; the bladder of his pride was pricked, and his vanity and self-conceit were exposed; and he was called upon to part with his substance; all which were sadly mortifying, and exceedingly disagreeable to him:

for he had great possessions; (See Gill on Matthew 19:22).

20 Ed egli rispondendo, gli disse: Maestro, tutte queste cose ho osservate fin dalla mia giovanezza.
21 E Gesù, riguardatolo in viso, l’amò, e gli disse: Una cosa ti manca; va’, vendi tutto ciò che tu hai, e dallo a’ poveri; e tu avrai un tesoro nel cielo; poi vieni, e tolta la tua croce, seguitami.
22 Ma egli, attristato di quella parola, se ne andò dolente; perciocchè avea di gran beni.
23 E Gesù, riguardatosi attorno, disse ai suoi discepoli: Quanto malagevolmente coloro che hanno delle ricchezze entreranno nel regno di Dio!
24 E i discepoli sbigottirono per le sue parole. E Gesù da capo replicò, e disse loro: Figliuoli, quanto malagevol cosa è, che coloro che si confidano nelle ricchezze entrino nel regno di Dio!
