Mark 6:17

For Herod himself had sent forth
Some of his guard, a detachment of soldiers,

and laid hold upon John;
who seized upon him, and took him up:

and bound him in prison;
in the castle of Machaerus:

for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife, for he had married
her;
whilst his brother was living, and who had had children by her; (See Gill on Matthew 14:3).

15 Altri dicevano: Egli è Elia; ed altri: Egli è un profeta, pari ad un de’ profeti.
16 Ma Erode, udite quelle cose, disse: Egli è quel Giovanni, che io ho decapitato; esso è risuscitato da’ morti.
17 Perciocchè esso Erode avea mandato a prender Giovanni, e l’avea messo nei legami in prigione, a motivo di Erodiada, moglie di Filippo, suo fratello; perciocchè egli l’avea sposata,
18 e Giovanni avea detto ad Erode: Ei non ti è lecito di aver la moglie del tuo fratello.
19 Ed Erodiada gliene avea mal talento; e volentieri l’avrebbe fatto morire, ma non poteva.
