37 Ed esso produce in abbondanza per li re che tu hai costituiti sopra noi, per li nostri peccati, e i quali signoreggiano sopra i nostri corpi, e sopra le nostre bestie, a lor volontà; onde noi siamo in gran distretta.

Nehemiah 9:37

And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast
set over us, because of our sins
Though a very fruitful land, and brought forth much, yet not for them, but for foreign kings, that had the sovereignty over them, and enacted much toll, tribute, and custom from them, which greatly lessened the profit of the earth to them:

also they have dominion over our bodies;
and could oblige them to work for them, and do any service they should command:

and over our cattle, at their pleasure;
to carry burdens for them, or ride post with them:

and we are in great distress;
being servants and tributaries to a foreign power.

35 E non ti hanno servito nel lor regno, e ne’ gran beni, che tu avevi loro dati, nè in quell’ampio e grasso paese, che tu avevi messo in lor potere; e non si son convertiti dalle loro opere malvage.

36 Ecco, oggi noi siamo servi; ecco, siamo servi nel paese che tu desti a’ nostri padri, per mangiarne i frutti ed i beni.

37 Ed esso produce in abbondanza per li re che tu hai costituiti sopra noi, per li nostri peccati, e i quali signoreggiano sopra i nostri corpi, e sopra le nostre bestie, a lor volontà; onde noi siamo in gran distretta.

38 PER tutto ciò adunque noi facciamo un patto stabile, e lo scriviamo; e i nostri capi, e i nostri Leviti, e i nostri sacerdoti hanno cura di suggellarlo.
