Andwhen he had apprehended him, he put him inprison, and delivered him to fourquaternions of soldiers to keephim;intendingafterEaster[a] to bringhimforth to the people.

Peter*therefore was keptinprison:butprayer[b]wasmade without ceasingof the churchuntoGodforhim.

AndwhenHerodwould have broughthimforth, the samenightPeterwassleepingbetweentwosoldiers,bound with twochains:and the keepersbefore the doorkept the prison.

And,behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a lightshinedin the prison:and he smotePeter on the side, and raisedhimup, saying, Arise upquickly*. Andhischains fell offfrom his hands.

And the angelsaiduntohim, Gird thyself, and bind onthysandals.Andso he did. And he saith unto him,Cast thy garmentaboutthee,andfollowme.

And he went out, and followedhim;andwistnotthat it wastruewhich was doneby the angel;butthought he saw a vision.

When they were past the firstand the secondward, they cameunto the irongate that leadethunto the city;whichopened to them of his own accord:and they went out, and passed on throughonestreet;andforthwith the angeldepartedfromhim.

And when Peter was cometohimself, he said, Now I know of a surety,that the Lord hath senthisangel,and hath deliveredme out of the hand of Herod,and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

And when he had considered the thing, he cameto the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname wasMark;wheremanywere gathered togetherpraying*.

And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damselcame to hearken,[c]namedRhoda.

And when she knewPeter'svoice, she openednot the gateforgladness,but ran in, and told howPeterstoodbefore the gate.

And they saiduntoher, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so.Then said they, It ishisangel.

ButPetercontinuedknocking: and when they had opened the door, and sawhim*, they were astonished.

But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto themhow the Lord had broughthim out of the prison.And he said, Go shew these things unto James,and to the brethren.And he departed, and wentintoanotherplace.
