And as theyspakeunto the people, the priests,and the captain[a] of the temple,and the Sadducees, came uponthem,

Being grievedthattheytaught the people,andpreachedthroughJesus the resurrectionfrom the dead.

And they laidhands on them,andput them inholdunto the next day:for it wasnoweventide.

Howbeitmany of them which heard the wordbelieved; and the number of the menwasaboutfivethousand.

And it came to passon the morrow, that theirrulers,andelders,andscribes,

AndAnnas the high priest,andCaiaphas,andJohn,andAlexander,and as many aswereof the kindred of the high priest, were gathered togetheratJerusalem.

And when they had setthemin the midst, they asked, Bywhatpower,orbywhatname,haveyedonethis?

ThenPeter,filled with the HolyGhost,saiduntothem, Ye rulers of the people,andelders of Israel,

Ifwe this day be examinedof the good deed done to the impotentman,by what meanshe is made whole;

Be itknown unto youall,and to all the people of Israel,thatby the name of JesusChrist of Nazareth,whomyecrucified, whomGodraisedfrom the dead, even byhimdoth this man stand herebeforeyouwhole.

Thisis the stonewhich was set at noughtofyoubuilders, which is become the headof the corner.

Neitheristheresalvationinanyother:for there isnoneothernameunderheavengivenamongmen,whereby*wemust be saved.

Now when they saw the boldness of PeterandJohn,andperceivedthat they wereunlearnedandignorantmen, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them,that they had beenwithJesus.

Andbeholding the man which was healedstandingwiththem, they couldsaynothing against it.
