AndJosephalso went upfromGalilee, out of the city of Nazareth,intoJudaea,unto the city of David,which is calledBethlehem;* (because hewasof the houseandlineage of David:)

To be taxed[a]withMaryhisespousedwife,being great with child.

And so it was, that, whiletheywerethere, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

And she brought forthherfirstbornson,andwrappedhim in swaddling clothes, andlaidhimin a manger;because there wasnoroom for themin the inn.

And there werein the samecountryshepherds abiding in the field*, keepingwatch[b]overtheirflock by night.

And,lo, the angel of the Lord came uponthem,and the glory of the Lord shone round aboutthem:and they were soreafraid*.
10
And the angelsaid unto them,Fearnot:for,behold, I bringyou good tidings of greatjoy,which shall be to allpeople.

For unto you is born this dayin the city of David a Saviour,whichisChrist the Lord.

Andthis shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lyingin a manger.

Andsuddenly there waswith the angel a multitude of the heavenlyhostpraisingGod,andsaying,

Glory to Godin the highest,andonearthpeace, good willtowardmen.
15
And it came to pass, as the angels were gone awayfromthemintoheaven*, the shepherds[c]*saidonetoanother, Let usnowgo even untoBethlehem,andseethisthing which is come to pass, whichtheLord hath made known unto us.

And they came with haste, and*foundMary,andJoseph,and the babelyingin a manger.
17
And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying*which was toldthemconcerningthischild.

Andall they that heard it wonderedat those things which were toldthem*by the shepherds.
19
ButMarykeptall these things*, and pondered them inherheart.
20
And the shepherdsreturned, glorifyingandpraisingGodfor all the thingsthat they had heardandseen, as it was tolduntothem.

Andwheneightdays were accomplished for the circumcising of the child*, hisname was calledJESUS,which was so namedof the angelbeforehe was conceivedin the womb.

Andwhen the days of herpurificationaccording to the law of Moses were accomplished, they broughthimtoJerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

(As it is writtenin the law of the Lord*, Everymale that openeth the womb shall be calledholy to the Lord;)

And to offer a sacrificeaccording to that which is saidin the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves,ortwoyoungpigeons.

And,behold, there was a maninJerusalem,whosename was Simeon;and the sameman was justanddevout,waiting for the consolation of Israel:and the HolyGhostwasuponhim.

And it wasrevealed unto himby the HolyGhost, that he shouldnotseedeath,beforehe had seen the Lord'sChrist.

And he cameby the Spiritinto the temple:and when the parentsbroughtin the childJesus, to do*forhimafter the custom of the law,

Which thou hast preparedbefore the face of allpeople;
32
A lighttolighten the Gentiles,and the glory of thypeopleIsrael.

AndJosephandhismothermarvelled*at those things which were spokenofhim.

AndSimeonblessedthem,andsaiduntoMaryhismother,Behold, this child is setfor the falland rising again of manyinIsrael;andfor a sign which shall be spoken against;
35
(Yea, a sword shall pierce throughthyownsoul also,) that the thoughtsofmanyheartsmay be revealed.

And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel,of the tribe of Aser:she* was of a great*age*, and had livedwith an husbandsevenyearsfromhervirginity;
37
Andshe was a widow of aboutfourscore and fouryears,whichdepartednotfrom the temple, but served God with fastingsandprayersnightandday.
38
Andshe* coming inthatinstant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord,andspakeofhim to all them that looked for redemptioninJerusalem.[d]

Andwhen they had performed all thingsaccording to the law of the Lord, they returnedintoGalilee,to their owncityNazareth.
40
And the childgrew, and waxed strong in spirit,filled with wisdom:and the grace of Godwasuponhim.

NowhisparentswenttoJerusalemeveryyear at the feast of the passover.

Andwhen he wastwelve years old,they went uptoJerusalemafter the custom of the feast.

And when they had fulfilled the days,astheyreturned, the childJesus tarried behindinJerusalem;andJosephandhismotherknewnot of it.

But they, supposinghim to have beenin the company,went a day'sjourney;and they soughthimamong their kinsfolkand*acquaintance.
45
And when they foundhimnot, they turned back againtoJerusalem,seekinghim.
46
And it came to pass, that afterthreedays they foundhimin the temple,sittingin the midst of the doctors,bothhearingthem,andaskingthemquestions.

Andall that heardhim were astonishedathisunderstandingandanswers.

And when they sawhim, they were amazed: andhismothersaiduntohim,Son,why hast thouthusdealt with us?behold, thyfather and I have soughttheesorrowing.

And he saiduntothem,How is it that ye soughtme? wist yenotthatImustbeaboutmy Father's business?

Andtheyunderstoodnot the sayingwhich he spake unto them.

And he went downwiththem,andcametoNazareth,andwassubject unto them:buthismotherkeptallthesesayingsinherheart.

AndJesusincreased in wisdomandstature,[e]and in favourwithGodandman.
