And when it wasday,certain of the Jews banded together*, and boundthemselves under a curse,[a]saying that they wouldneithereatnordrinktillthey had killedPaul.

And they were more thanfortywhich had madethisconspiracy.

And they came to the chief priestsandelders, and said, We have boundourselves under a great curse, that we will eatnothinguntilwe have slainPaul.

Nowthereforeyewith the councilsignify to the chief captainthat he bringhimdownuntoyou to morrow,as though ye wouldenquire something more perfectlyconcerninghim:andwe, or everhe come near, areready to killhim.

And when Paul'ssister'ssonheard of their lying in wait, he wentandenteredinto the castle, and toldPaul.

ThenPaulcalledone of the centurions unto him, and said, Bringthis young manunto the chief captain:for he hath a certain thing to tellhim.
18
Sohetookhim, and brought him to the chief captain,andsaid, Paul the prisonercalledme unto him, and prayed me to bringthis young man untothee, who hathsomething to say unto thee.

Then the chief captaintookhim by the hand,and went with him asideprivately*, and asked him, Whatisthat thou hast to tellme?
20
And he said*, The Jews have agreed to desiretheethat thou wouldest bring downPaul to morrowinto the council,as though they wouldenquiresomewhatofhim more perfectly.
21
Butdonotthouyield unto them:for there lie in wait forhimofthem more thanfortymen,which have boundthemselves with an oath, that they willneithereatnordrinktillthey have killedhim:andnow are theyready, looking for a promisefromthee.

Sothe chief captain then let the young mandepart, and charged him, See thou tell no manthat thou hast shewed these thingstome.

And he called untohimtwocenturions,saying, Make ready two hundredsoldierstogotoCaesarea,andhorsemen threescore and ten,andspearmen two hundred,at the thirdhour of the night;
24
Andprovide them beasts,that they may setPaulon, and bring him safeuntoFelix the governor.

ClaudiusLysias unto the most excellentgovernorFelix sendeth greeting.
27
Thisman was takenof the Jews,andshould have been killedofthem: then came Iwith an army, and rescuedhim, having understoodthat he was a Roman.

Andwhen I would have known the causewhereforetheyaccusedhim, I broughthimforthintotheircouncil:

Whom I perceived to be accusedofquestions of theirlaw,but to havenothing laid to his chargeworthy of deathor of bonds.
30
And when it was toldme how that the Jews laid wait**for the man, I sentstraightwaytothee, and gave commandment to his accusersalso to saybeforethee what they had againsthim.Farewell.

Thenthesoldiers,as it was commandedthem,tookPaul, and brought him bynighttoAntipatris.

On the morrow they left the horsemen to gowithhim, and returnedto the castle:

Who, when they cametoCaesarea,anddelivered the epistle to the governor,presentedPaulalso before him.

And when the governor had read the letter, he askedofwhatprovince he was. And when he understoodthat he was ofCilicia;

I will hearthee, said he, whenthineaccusersarealsocome. And he commandedhim to be keptinHerod's judgment hall.
