2 Samuel 3:11-21

11 Isch-Boscheth n'osa pas répliquer un seul mot à Abner, parce qu'il le craignait.

12 Abner envoya des messagers à David pour lui dire de sa part: A qui est le pays? Fais alliance avec moi, et voici, ma main t'aidera pour tourner vers toi tout Israël.

13 Il répondit: Bien! je ferai alliance avec toi; mais je te demande une chose, c'est que tu ne voies point ma face, à moins que tu n'amènes d'abord Mical, fille de Saül, en venant auprès de moi.

14 Et David envoya des messagers à Isch-Boscheth, fils de Saül, pour lui dire: Donne-moi ma femme Mical, que j'ai fiancée pour cent prépuces de Philistins.

15 Isch-Boscheth la fit prendre chez son mari Palthiel, fils de Laïsch.

16 Et son mari la suivit en pleurant jusqu'à Bachurim. Alors Abner lui dit: Va, retourne-t'en! Et il s'en retourna.

17 Abner eut un entretien avec les anciens d'Israël, et leur dit: Vous désiriez autrefois d'avoir David pour roi;

18 tablissez-le maintenant, car l'Eternel a dit de lui: C'est par David, mon serviteur, que je délivrerai mon peuple d'Israël de la main des Philistins et de la main de tous ses ennemis.

19 Abner parla aussi à Benjamin, et il alla rapporter aux oreilles de David à Hébron ce qu'avaient résolu Israël et toute la maison de Benjamin.

20 Il arriva auprès de David à Hébron, accompagné de vingt hommes; et David fit un festin à Abner et à ceux qui étaient avec lui.

21 Abner dit à David: Je me lèverai, et je partirai pour rassembler tout Israël vers mon seigneur le roi; ils feront alliance avec toi, et tu règneras entièrement selon ton désir. David renvoya Abner, qui s'en alla en paix.

INTRODUCTION TO SECOND SAMUEL 3

This chapter begins with the continuation of the war between the house of Saul and the house of David, 2Sa 3:1; and gives an account of the wives of David, and his sons by them, 2Sa 3:2-5; of a quarrel between Ishbosheth and Abner, 2Sa 3:6-11; and of Abner's proposal to make a league with David; but David would not see his face unless Michal his wife was returned to him, who was accordingly, 2Sa 3:12-16; and of the interest Abner made with the elders of Israel in favour of David, which he reported to him, and promised to make more, 2Sa 3:17-21; but Joab returning from a pursuit, and with great spoil, just as Abner departed, and hearing of it, chided David for letting him go, and privately sent for him back, and treacherously murdered him, 2Sa 3:22-27; from which murder David cleared himself and his kingdom, and for it made dreadful imprecations on Joab and his family, 2Sa 3:28-30; and buried Abner with great lamentation, expressing much concern for his death, and the high opinion he had of him, 2Sa 3:31-39.
