The elders of the people;
or "the presbytery of the people", that were chosen from among
the people to sit in the sanhedrim; the Israelites, as distinct
from priests and Levites, and the doctors:
and the chief priests and the Scribes came
together;
which made up the great sanhedrim, or council of the nation:
and led him into their council;
or sanhedrim, the place where the sanhedrim sat, which was in the
temple, and in the chamber called (tyzgh tkvl) , "the paved stone chamber" F14; here
they usually met, and so the Persic version renders it, "where
their congregation was daily there".
