The “merciful” have no expectations of people. We just love with no demand of reciprocation. We know where we have come from – and know how much grace we received. (Matthew 5:5-7) (2 Peter 1:5-9)

The “merciful” do not pre-judge someone. We look for the best in people – not the worst. The “merciful” person is slow to condemn and quick to commend. Do not rebuke a person until you have wept for that person.

The life of Jesus is the reflection of the Sermon on the Mount. Imbedded in this teaching is the heart and character of God and the value system of Heaven. This is what we want to emulate in our walk with God. "Merciful" indicates being moved with pity and compassion – it involves thought and action. This is a quality of one's inner life.
