Proverbs 6:2 Meaning and Commentary

Proverbs 6:2

Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth
Got into a snare out of which an escape is not easy; art no longer free, and thine own man, but under obligation to pay the debt if required; by the verbal agreement made and confirmed by striking hands, and this before witnesses; thou art taken with the words of thy mouth;
as in a net, and held fast therein and thereby, and cannot get loose without paying the debt, if the debtor does not, or without the leave of the creditor.

Proverbs 6:2 In-Context

1 Dear friend, if you've gone into hock with your neighbor or locked yourself into a deal with a stranger,
2 If you've impulsively promised the shirt off your back and now find yourself shivering out in the cold,
3 Friend, don't waste a minute, get yourself out of that mess. You're in that man's clutches! Go, put on a long face; act desperate.
4 Don't procrastinate - there's no time to lose.
5 Run like a deer from the hunter, fly like a bird from the trapper! A Lesson from the Ant
