Psalms 74:22

22 On your feet, O God - stand up for yourself! Do you hear what they're saying about you, all the vile obscenities?

Psalms 74:22 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 74:22

Arise, O God, plead thine own cause
The church's cause being the cause of God; and therefore she desires that he would arise and exert himself, and take vengeance on his and her enemies: this is an interesting argument, and a forcible one:

remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily;
this being so frequently repeated, as in ( Psalms 74:10 Psalms 74:18 ) , shows how much the name and glory of God lay near her heart; the Targum is,

``remember the reproach of thy people by a foolish king all the day;''

perhaps the man of sin is meant, the king of the locusts, and angel of the bottomless pit.

Psalms 74:22 In-Context

20 Remember your promises; the city is in darkness, the countryside violent.
21 Don't leave the victims to rot in the street; make them a choir that sings your praises.
22 On your feet, O God - stand up for yourself! Do you hear what they're saying about you, all the vile obscenities?
23 Don't tune out their malicious filth, the brawling invective that never lets up.
