13 And behold, 1two of them were going that veryday to a villagenamedEmmaus, which was about sevenmiles from Jerusalem.

And they were talking with eachotheraboutallthesethings which had takenplace.

While they were talking and discussing, JesusHimselfapproached and began traveling with them.

But 2their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him.

And He said to them, "What are thesewords that you are exchanging with oneanother as you are walking?" And they stoodstill, lookingsad.

One of them, namedCleopas, answered and said to Him, "Are You the onlyonevisitingJerusalem and unaware* of the things which have happenedhere* in thesedays?"

And He said to them, "Whatthings?" And they said to Him, "The things about3Jesus the Nazarene, who was a 4prophetmighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people,

and how the chiefpriests and our 5rulersdelivered Him to the sentence of death, and crucified Him.

"But we were hoping that it was He who was going to 6redeemIsrael. Indeed, besides*allthis, it is the thirddaysince*thesethingshappened.

"But alsosomewomenamong us amazed us. 7When they were at the tombearly in the morning,

and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had alsoseen a vision of angelswhosaid that He was alive.
24
"Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it justexactly as the womenalso had said; but Him they did not see."

And He said to them, "Ofoolishmen and slow of heart to believe in all that 8the prophets have spoken!

"9Was it not necessary for the Christ to sufferthesethings and to enter into His glory?"

Thenbeginning with 10Moses and with all the 11prophets, He explained to them the things concerningHimself in all the Scriptures.

And they approached the villagewhere they were going, and 12He acted as though He were goingfarther.
29
But they urged Him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is getting towardevening, and the day is nownearlyover." So He went in to stay with them.
30
When He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and 13blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them.
31
Then their 14eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight.
32
They said to oneanother, "Were not our heartsburningwithin us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He 15was explaining the Scriptures to us?"
