1 Samuel 29:1

Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to
Aphek
Not the city in the tribe of Judah of that name, ( Joshua 15:53 ) ; where the Philistines had a camp in the time of Samuel, ( 1 Samuel 4:1 ) ; but rather that in the tribe of Asher, ( Joshua 19:30 ) ; unless there was one of this name in the tribe of Issachar, not mentioned, since it seems to have been near Jezreel and Shunem, which were both in that tribe, ( Joshua 19:18 ) ;

and the Israelites pitched by a fountain which is in Jezreel;
in the valley of Jezreel; of which (See Gill on Joshua 19:18) and (See Gill on Hosea 1:5).

Todo el ejército filisteo se movilizó en Afec, y los israelitas acamparon junto al manantial de Jezreel.

2 Mientras los gobernantes filisteos dirigían a sus tropas en grupos de cien y de mil, David y sus hombres marcharon por la retaguardia con el rey Aquis.

3 Pero los comandantes filisteos reclamaron:
—¿Qué hacen aquí estos hebreos?
Y Aquis les dijo:
—Este es David, el siervo de Saúl, rey de Israel. Él ha estado conmigo por años, y no he encontrado en él ninguna falta, desde que llegó hasta el día de hoy.

4 Pero los comandantes filisteos se enojaron.
—¡Envíalo de vuelta a la ciudad que le diste! —le exigieron—. No puede ir con nosotros a la batalla. ¿Y si se vuelve contra nosotros durante la batalla y se convierte en nuestro adversario? ¿Qué mejor manera de reconciliarse con su amo que entregándole nuestras cabezas?

5 ¿No es este el mismo David por quien las mujeres de Israel cantan en sus danzas:
“Saúl mató a sus miles,
y David, a sus diez miles”?
