17 —¿Qué es ese monumento que está allí? —preguntó Josías.
Y la gente de la ciudad contestó:
—¡Es la tumba del hombre de Dios que vino desde Judá y predijo precisamente lo que tú acabas de hacer al altar de Betel!

2 Kings 23:17

Then he said, what title is that that I see?
&c.] A high and large monument over a grave, with an inscription on it, more remarkable than any of the rest, which made Josiah take notice of it; and the Jews have a tradition, as Kimchi observes, that on one side of the grave grew nettles and thistles, and on the other side odoriferous herbs; which is not to be depended on; but what he further observes may be right, that the old prophet, as he gave orders to his sons to lay his body in the same grave with the man of God, believing his words would be fulfilled, so he likewise gave orders to have a distinguished monument or pillar erected over the grave; and which people in later times took care to support, in memory of the man of God, that thereby it might be known; by which means not only the bones of the man of God were preserved from being burnt, but those of the old prophet also, buried with him:

and the men of the city told him, it is the sepulchre of the man of
God, which came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that thou
hast done against the altar of Bethel;

15 El rey también derribó el altar que estaba en Betel, el santuario pagano que Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, había levantado cuando hizo pecar a Israel. Quemó el santuario y lo molió hasta convertirlo en cenizas, y quemó el poste dedicado a la diosa Asera.

16 Luego Josías se dio vuelta y notó que había varias tumbas en la ladera de la colina. Ordenó que sacaran los huesos y los quemó sobre el altar de Betel para profanarlo. (Todo sucedió tal como lo había anunciado el Señor
por medio del hombre de Dios cuando Jeroboam se paró junto al altar durante el festival).
Después Josías se dio vuelta y miró hacia arriba, a la tumba del hombre de Dios
que había predicho estas cosas.

17 —¿Qué es ese monumento que está allí? —preguntó Josías.
Y la gente de la ciudad contestó:
—¡Es la tumba del hombre de Dios que vino desde Judá y predijo precisamente lo que tú acabas de hacer al altar de Betel!

18 —¡Déjenlo en paz! —respondió Josías—, ¡no molesten sus huesos!
Por lo tanto, no quemaron sus huesos ni los del viejo profeta de Samaria.

19 Después Josías demolió todas las edificaciones que había en los santuarios paganos de los pueblos de Samaria, tal como lo hizo en Betel. Estas construcciones fueron obra de diversos reyes de Israel y con ellas hicieron enojar mucho al Señor
.
