16 Así que ese tal Sesbasar llegó y echó los cimientos del templo de Dios en Jerusalén. Desde entonces, la gente ha estado trabajando en la reconstrucción, pero aún no está terminado”.

Ezra 5:16

Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the
house of God which is in Jerusalem
Which makes it clear, that by Sheshbazzar is meant Zerubbabel; for he it was that laid the foundation of the temple, or at least by whose order it was laid, see ( Zechariah 4:9 )

and since that time even until now;
from the first of Cyrus to the second of Darius, a space of about eighteen years, and just seventy from the destruction of the temple:

hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished;
the work going on slowly, not without interruption and intermission, through the enmity of the Samaritans unto them, who had made false representations of them; but these men, Tatnai and those with him, as the Jews gave them a very particular account of things, as above, so they fairly and fully related them in this their letter to the king.

14 El rey Ciro devolvió las copas de oro y de plata que Nabucodonosor había tomado del templo de Dios en Jerusalén y había colocado en el templo de Babilonia. Esas copas fueron retiradas de ese templo y entregadas a un hombre llamado Sesbasar, a quien el rey Ciro había designado gobernador de Judá.

15 El rey le indicó que devolviera las copas a su lugar en Jerusalén y reconstruyera el templo de Dios en su sitio original.

16 Así que ese tal Sesbasar llegó y echó los cimientos del templo de Dios en Jerusalén. Desde entonces, la gente ha estado trabajando en la reconstrucción, pero aún no está terminado”.

17 »Por lo tanto, si al rey le place, solicitamos que se haga una investigación en los archivos reales de Babilonia, a fin de descubrir si es verdad que el rey Ciro emitió un decreto para la reconstrucción del templo de Dios en Jerusalén; y luego, que el rey nos haga saber su decisión sobre este asunto».
