Isaiah 36:14

Thus saith the king
The king of Assyria, whom he personated, whose general and ambassador he was; so he spake to command the greater awe of the people, and the more to terrify them: let not Hezekiah deceive you;
with fair words, promising protection and safety, making preparations for the defence of the city, and to oblige the besiegers to break up the siege of it: for he shall not be able to deliver you;
but if he was not, his God, whom he served, and in whom he trusted, was able to deliver them, and did deliver them; though he endeavoured to dissuade them from trusting in him, or hearkening to Hezekiah's persuasions thereunto, as in the following verse.

12 Pero el jefe del Estado Mayor de Senaquerib respondió:
—¿Ustedes creen que mi amo les envió este mensaje solo a ustedes y a su amo? Él quiere que todos los habitantes lo oigan porque, cuando sitiemos a esta ciudad, ellos sufrirán junto con ustedes. Tendrán tanta hambre y tanta sed que comerán su propio excremento y beberán su propia orina.

13 Después el jefe del Estado Mayor se puso de pie y le gritó en hebreo a la gente que estaba sobre la muralla: «¡Escuchen este mensaje del gran rey de Asiria!

14 El rey dice lo siguiente: “No dejen que Ezequías los engañe. Él jamás podrá librarlos.

15 No permitan que los haga confiar en el Señor
diciéndoles: ‘Con toda seguridad el Señor
nos librará. ¡Esta ciudad nunca caerá en manos del rey asirio!’.

16 »”¡No escuchen a Ezequías! El rey de Asiria les ofrece estas condiciones: hagan las paces conmigo; abran las puertas y salgan. Entonces cada uno de ustedes podrá seguir comiendo de su propia vid y de su propia higuera, y bebiendo de su propio pozo.
