Isaiah 37:35

For I will defend this city to save it
Or, "shield it"; and if God will be the shield and protection of any place or people, they must needs be safe; who can hurt them?

For my own sake, and for my servant David's sake;
not for the merits of the inhabitants of it, but for the sake of his own name and glory, who had been blasphemed by the Assyrian monarch, and his general; and for the sake of his servant David, in whose seed he had promised the kingdom should be established; see ( 2 Samuel 7:12-16 ) and chiefly for the sake of the Messiah, David's son, and the Lord's servant, who was to spring from Hezekiah's race, and therefore must not be cut off.

33 »Y esto dice el Señor
acerca del rey de Asiria:
»“Sus ejércitos no entrarán en Jerusalén;
ni siquiera lanzarán una sola flecha contra ella.
No marcharán fuera de sus puertas con sus escudos
ni levantarán terraplenes contra sus murallas.

34 El rey regresará a su propia tierra
por el mismo camino por donde vino.
No entrará en esta ciudad
—dice el Señor
—.

35 Por mi propia honra y por amor a mi siervo David,
defenderé esta ciudad y la protegeré”».

36 Esa noche el ángel del Señor
fue al campamento asirio y mató a 185.000 soldados. Cuando los asirios que sobrevivieron
se despertaron a la mañana siguiente, encontraron cadáveres por todas partes.

37 Entonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, levantó campamento y regresó a su propia tierra. Volvió a Nínive, la capital del reino, y allí se quedó.
