Joshua 4:2

Take you twelve men out of the people
Joshua had before this ordered twelve men to be taken from among them, which seems to have been done of himself; and now he has a direction from God for it, and what to employ them in:

out of every tribe a man;
so that what they did was in the name of the several tribes, and as representing them.

1 Monumentos del cruce del Jordán
Una vez que todo el pueblo terminó de cruzar el Jordán, el Señor
le dijo a Josué:
2 «Ahora elige a doce hombres, uno de cada tribu.
3 Diles: “Tomen doce piedras del medio del Jordán, del mismo lugar donde están parados los sacerdotes. Llévenlas al lugar donde van a acampar esta noche y amontónenlas allí”».
4 Entoncés Josué convocó a los doce hombres que había elegido, uno por cada tribu de Israel.
5 Les dijo: «Vayan a la mitad del Jordán, frente al arca del Señor
su Dios. Cada uno de ustedes debe tomar una piedra y cargarla al hombro; serán doce piedras en total, una por cada tribu de Israel.
